UPDATE: The US Supreme Court has upheld the Individual Mandate of the Affordable Care Act, and ruled it constitutional. This comes as a surprise to me, to be honest, especially considering Super Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts voted in FAVOR of the Mandate while Justice Kennedy voted against it. We're in Bizarro world today, but I'm not complaining.
It's a good day, folks.
Original Piece Below
=========================
So as I write this, we are almost five hours away from the Supreme
Court ruling on the constitutionality of the Affordable Health Care Act,
derisively referred to as "Obamacare" by Republicans. I was in the
process of writing up a piece expressing my frustration at how I figure
the heavily conservative court will probably side with the Republicans
and continue to eradicate any sense of good from our society. They
already delivered a hammer to humanity with their unconscionable
Citizens United ruling, and the anticipated ( by me anyway ) smackdown
in full or part of the Affordable Care Act is just another step in that
direction.
But then I just said, you know what? Screw
it. I give up. I'm tired of trying to talk sense into people who don't
want to enlighten themselves. I'm tired of trying to talk some type of
ration into people who are completely irrational, completely reliant on
false information, and what's worse have ZERO interest in actually
learning the truth. Because it makes them feel good to believe the
lies. It reinforces what they already believe. And they push back
against anyone who dares point out that they might be wrong on
something.
So I give up. I'm tired of trying to reason
with people who continue to support and vote AGAINST their own self
interests. People of limited means who continue to support a political
party that stands in opposition to them. People who can't afford to go
to the doctor without missing meals or electric bills, and yet still
opposes the Affordable Care act, because they've been told by Fox News
that it's Socialist or Maoist or Fascist or whatever the fuck-ist.
I'm
tired of trying to discuss things with people who see "The least of my
people", as Jesus Christ once referred to them, suffer and deal with
such hardships, and then turn around and support a party that does
everything they can to dump on and make those people suffer even more.
In
the last few years the Republicans at a state and national level have
introduced bills to eliminate the Disability Lifeline (aka GAU in
Washington State) which helped 17,000 people keep a roof over their
head, which they did. They introduced legislation to severely cut Food
Stamps for the lowest of income earners, to cut LIHEAP/SNAP which funds
the low income community with heating assistance in the winter months.
I'm
tired of trying to get people to stop voting against their own self
interests based only on what they think they're supposed to do based on
their Religious beliefs. Jesus was not in favor of screwing over the
poor people in favor of the rich. He was the ABSOLUTE ANTITHESIS OF
THAT! Yet, some people seem to think that Christians are supposed to
be Republicans?
I have a message for Christians
everywhere! Jesus was only on the cross because he refused Politics!
So why are you trying to mix your faith in with Politics???? Leave
that shit alone. Vote according to your self interests, not based on
what you THINK the Bible tells you.
Because Jesus said
nothing about gay marriage or abortion, however he spoke PLENTY on
helping the poor and the "least of my people" and spoke heavily AGAINST
the rich.
So I quit. The ignorant have won. Go ahead
and stew in your ignorance, I will no longer try to talk sense to you. I
will no longer try to kindly point out that you are mistaken in
something you believe. From now on it's "that's nice." if that.
Because
I just don't have it in me anymore to keep on trying to point out the
absolute bat shit insanity that people keep coming to me with.
